What is Shamanic Healing?
"Because it is not an organized religion as such, but rather a spiritual practice, shamanism cuts across all faiths and creeds, reaching deep levels of ancestral memory. As a primal belief system, which precedes established religion, it has its own symbolism and cosmology, inhabited by beings, gods, and totems, who display similar characteristics although they appear in various forms, depending upon their places of origin."
~John Matthews, The Celtic Shaman
The Shaman is a wounded healer. Someone who has come through their dark night of the soul, battled their inner demons, and come out the other side ready to help others on their healing journey. In order to truly understand suffering, one must also have suffered. Through trials and tribulation, we have the choice to grow and learn.
One of the ways in which we heal is through ego death. On the path to knowledge, the shaman must confront their ego. It is ego that keeps us wanting for more, it is ego that fuels jealousy and fear, and it is ego that kills our self esteem by making us compare ourselves to others. Many equate ego with identity and by losing our sense of self, we are able to see a bigger picture.
Letting go of the belief that we are separate entities and recognizing that we all come from one energy source is necessary in expanding our consciousness. In this unity, we are much more aware of others feelings and shared experiences. By breaking down ego, the shaman is able to put to rest their own selfish desires and let spirit move through them. Therefore, healing is done by spirit, not the practitioner.
We are experiencing this life in physical form, but fundamentally we are all energy. When we encounter any sort of trauma it creates an energetic imprint that asserts itself on the physical body. If these imprints are not removed, they can wreak havoc on all aspects of our mental, emotional, and physical body. Shamanic healing is working with that imprinted energy through spirit. The primary focus is to identify areas that are out of balance, direct the energy there to flow again and move it back into balance.
